The United States Department of Labor has released their “Employment Situation” Report for July 2014.


Some of the Statistical Highlights:

  • Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 209,000
  • Unemployment rate was little changed at 6.2 percent
  • Number of unemployed persons declined by 1.1 percentage points (9.7 million)
  • Number of long-term unemployed (jobless for 27 weeks or more) was essentially unchanged at 3.2 million
  • Professional and business services employment added 47,000 in July and has added 648,000 jobs over the past 12 months
  • Average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls edged up by 1 cent to $24.45
